Book of Juno
Software developer Gamomat invite you to summon the Roman goddess Juno in their December 2020 release steeped in ancient mythology.
Juno is believed to have kept watch over her female people using her special powers many centuries ago. Now Gamomat have brought this Roman deity into the digital age with their slot recreation, where she promises to bestow riches upon the most daring of players.
Most games occupying the ‘Book of’ category tend to focus on Ancient Egypt, but Gamomat have traversed some 2,000 km northwest with this offering. Let’s see what lies in store behind the 5-reel, 3-row slot.
Book of Juno boasts a bright colour-scheme, brimming with shades of purple, yellow, green and red.
Occupying the paytable are token lower value playing card icons running from 10-K, with the top end dominated by objects synonymous with the ancient era like a Pomegranate and Peacock. This glorious creature was Juno’s sacred animal, incidentally, which explains its inclusion.
The star of the show, Juno, serves up the meatiest prizes, which can stretch to a substantial 500x your wager for 5 of a kind across any of the 10 paylines in play.
Gameplay & Features
A minimum of 2 identical premium symbols running from left to right is enough to trigger a payout, while 3 will do it for the lower pays.
There are, however, other features in the offing promising more lucrative rewards in Book of Juno.
The Book symbol serves dual function as both the Scatter and the Wild. As the Wild it does its regular thing, stepping in for all other symbols to help you form winning arrangements, while Free Spins come into play when it shows up in sets of 3, 4 or 5, acting as the Scatter.
Your starting haul is 10 Free Spins, which can be increased by triggering additional free rounds.
Before the feature begins, a random symbol except the Book is drawn at random to become the bonus symbol, which helps boost your win opportunities. Whenever at least 2 bonus symbols show up on separate reels, they proceed to fill the corresponding reels, spelling potentially large payouts.
Gamomat have bolted on a Gamble feature to the game, found in many ‘Book of’ style slot offerings - but which comes with a twist.
After every win, players can choose between banking their payout or chancing it on a pair of Gamble Features.
The more familiar option presents players with a closed deck of cards, from which they must choose the correct outcome between red and black. Any successful guesses then can be gambled again and again, and returns may be claimed at any time. Guess wrong, though, and you exit the feature empty-handed.
A nice feature incorporated by Gamomat gives you the chance to split your win, allowing you to keep gambling on one half while banking the other.
Risk Ladder Gamble
The more intriguing addition is the Risk Ladder Gamble, where you get to ascend a maximum of 12 ladder rungs by hitting the Gamble button starting at 0.
Manage a successful gamble, and you move up a rung, but get it wrong, and you fall down one. Note that you only lose your entire haul whenever you slide all the way back down to 0, and again, you can jump off the ladder any time you wish and add any winnings to your bankroll.
Book of Juno on Mobile
Players can get the same rich experience playing Book of Juno on pretty much every modern operating system, including the likes of Android, iOS and Windows.
Gamomat give Book of Juno a volatility rating of 4/5 - so it calls for a healthy dose of patience and sufficient starting bankroll to land some ancient rewards.
A respectable RTP (Return to Player) of 96.14%, however, sits just about slap bang in the mid-range for the typical slot - so it does give players plenty of ‘bang for their buck’ on average.
Overall this is a worthy addition to the long line of ‘Book’ themed video slots, taking players to Ancient Rome, rather than the familiar plains of Egypt, to begin their quest for riches.
The game does lack the visual polish of many other competing titles vying for players’ wallet share, but that is offset by some novel bonus features like the Ladder Gamble and Nudging feature found in the Free Spins round.
Onto the potential returns, and a maximum payout of 6,122x, while not the highest on the market - is certainly not to be sniffed at either.
Fans of ‘Book of’ slots, or those enchanted by Ancient mythology, could do a lot worse than Book of Juno.
